Design Think your Way to a Better Library – Lyrasis Live Webinar

Date: Wednesday, April 24, 2019

Time: 12:00 – 2:00 pm

Location: Perkins Room

This two-hour webinar introduces participants to design thinking through the exploration of a process that begins with an empathic approach to problem finding that leads to a thoughtful solution. Attendees will gain familiarity with the different phases of the design thinking process through examples of how they are applied in a library environment. While there are other methods leading to decisions for making libraries better, design thinking lends itself to staff engagement opportunities for collaborative problem finding and solving.

Attendees will spend the first segment of the webinar learning the phases of the design thinking process through a video presentation (viewed in advance) that examines the work of a design team. This is used to introduce the six phases of the design thinking process. Examples of applications in libraries are used to reinforce how design thinking is applied in practice. In the second segment attendees are introduced to the mechanics of developing a design challenge. This involves resources to structure and conduct the challenge at your library. This webinar makes use of several activities common to design thinking education. Instructor: Steven J. Bell

Sherry, I contacted Lyrasis and they do provide a link to the archived webinar via email with the person who registers for the event. Because there’s a cost involved, I’ll need to find out who will actually be receiving the email to make it available. I’m interested in it as well and won’t be able to see it on Wednesday. I’ll make a note to post it on the training page and let you know the week of April 29. Thanks for asking!

No registration necessary, Amber. Just sign in when you arrive, and I’ll have the info I need for training hours. Thanks for the question!

Are we needing to watch a video before we arrive? I was a little confused by the statement, “Attendees will spend the first segment of the webinar learning the phases of the design thinking process through a video presentation (viewed in advance) that examines the work of a design team.”

Good question – I have not received information or a link about pre-work for the webinar, and I’ll check with Scarlett and verify. If there is info about the phases of the design thinking process, perhaps it will be made available in the session at noon today. Thank you for asking.
