Public Services Summer Intern

Hannah Beemer is a senior secondary English education major at Washburn University. As Hannah approaches her final semester at Washburn and gets ready to graduate in the fall, she is excited to spend the summer at the library. After graduating she hopes to start her career as a middle school teacher and have her own classroom in the 501 district.

Q & A with Hannah

Share a book you remember loving as a kid.

The Selection series by Kiera Cass. I read the first three books within 24 hours. I got in trouble for having that book out in class. I also was grounded for reading at 1 am, my mom came upstairs and said, “I’m going to take all your books if you do not put this away right now.” I said, “Have fun trying to take away my 100+ books.”

Who is your favorite book character and why?

I read a lot of books, so this is really hard. Cassandra Clare is one of my favorite authors so Clary from the Mortal Instruments series would probably be one of my favorites. I just feel connected to her because there is a lot of character development, and I was able to follow her life for six books.

If you could visit any place in the world, where would you go?

I have this dream of teaching in Spain, just for a year to get more immersed in the culture. I have taken five years of Spanish and most of its gone because I have nothing to keep it up. Just being able to visit another country and still being able to work would help a lot. My husband is a soccer referee so he could ref soccer and I could teach English. I think we should just move to Spain for a year.

Welcome! and good for you – Middle School English is a real calling. Thank you for spending your summer with us. Happy to help if you need anything – I’m on the other side of the workroom just down a bit from Autumn’s office. Welcome again, Kate
