New Information on Friends Quarterly Book Sales

The Friends of the Library is changing from an annual book sale to four quarterly sales with the first sale Jan 19-21. Here are some talking points to answer customer questions about the sales. Please talk to Mary Campbell if you have any additional questions.

January sale basics:

  • Members-only night – Friday, Jan. 19, 5-8 pm. Memberships are sold at the door. The café is staying open this Friday until 7 p.m. (Remember, all library staff are members of the Friends and may attend with their spouse. Staff also get a 10% discount in the Booktique.)
  • Saturday, Jan. 20 the sale is open to the public from 9am – 3pm.
  • Sunday, Jan. 21 from noon to 3 pm is a bag sale where shoppers may fill a grocery bag (provided) with books and media for $10.
  • Cash and credit cards accepted.
  • Bring your own bags Friday and Saturday, bags provided on Sunday.

Why are the sales changing?
Quarterly sales give people more opportunities to shop during the year and a more manageable collection to choose from. Holding the sales at the library will also be easier for volunteers. Transferring thousands of books, movies and music to an off-site venue was labor intensive. Sales at the library will be less expensive for the Friends and it will also generate greater awareness of the Friends with year-round events.

When are the other sales in 2018?
The other 2018 sales will be held March 23-24, July 20-22, and Oct. 19-21. For more information about the sales visit

What does a Friends membership cost?
Individual memberships are $20 and family memberships start at $30. Memberships are good for 1 year from date of purchase. In addition to attendance at the member-only book sale night, members receive a 10% discount in the Booktique, access to the Booktique holiday open house, 3 newsletters a year with insider information and an invitation to the Friends’ annual meeting.

Can I volunteer to help at the sale?
Yes, if you would like to volunteer to help at any of the sales, please contact Kari Zimmerman, 580-4490.
