Recording Video Views: Info for YT and FB Program Videos

NEKLS and the Kansas State Library, on behalf of the IMLS, have updated their ask for programming attendance to include specific numbers for recorded videos. If you create program content for our YouTube channel and/or videos for Facebook, this info is for you!

The “attendance” numbers we need to report for videos with program content (the Good Ideas series, craft and activity tutorials, and anything else that could also be an in-person or virtual program) are the number of views the video has collected 7 days after posting. Here is your tutorial on just how to get that done.

  • YouTube videos
    • When Michael has posted your video, set a calendar reminder for 7 days from that video.
    • When 7 days have passed from the date of the video being posted, find your video on YouTube and record the relevant information and the number of views in this spreadsheet. (It’s called “Recorded Video Views 2022” and it is located on the Global drive under “Reports & Statistics.”)
  • Facebook videos
    • When Michael has posted your video, set a calendar reminder for 7 days from that video.
    • When 7 days have passed from the date of the video being posted, contact your department’s Social Media Team member(s) and ask for them to follow these steps and report to you the number they find:
      • Open Facebook and log into the TSCPL account.
      • Select “Creator Studio” and find the video that needs reporting.
      • Select “Insights” and report the 3-second video views for the 7 days the video has been posted.
    • Record the relevant information and the total number of 3-second video views in this spreadsheet. (It’s called “Recorded Video Views 2022” and it is located on the Global drive under “Reports & Statistics.”)

This procedure applies to videos posted today (3/14/2022) and in the future. This procedure does NOT apply to live virtual programs that are scheduled in Communico, only pre-recorded videos with program content. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me, Michael, or Shannon and we can assist you!
