AmeriCorps Volunteers

For the next nine weeks the Library will have 10 AmeriCorps volunteers helping out on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  These volunteers will be working from 8:30-5:00, both inside and outside of the building.

AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs whose goal is to improve lives and foster civic engagement. Members commit their time to address critical community needs like increasing academic achievement, mentoring youth, fighting poverty, sustaining national parks, preparing for disasters, and more.

The Library partnered with the City of Topeka to apply to have AmeriCorps volunteers assigned to our area.   The main focus of their work at the library will be signing people up for library cards and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, but they will also be helping out in a number of other areas.  These include helping with Red Carpet deliveries, Adventurmobile, and various programs and special events.

During the days they are not at the library they will be volunteering at the VA Hospital, community centers, and the city of Topeka.

The AmeriCorps volunteers are very excited to be here and will give us a great opportunity to expand our reach.  They will all be wearing AmeriCorps shirts, so you can’t miss them.  Please say hi to them and make them feel welcome.
